Tips for Eating Out on the Low-FODMAP Diet
Restaurant dining is one of the biggest challenges for people on the low-FODMAP diet. Hidden garlic powder, onion in sauces, and wheat used as thickeners can make seemingly safe dishes into FODMAP triggers. But with the right preparation, you can enjoy dining out confidently.
General Restaurant Rules
- Call ahead: Mention your dietary needs when booking. Many chefs are willing to accommodate.
- Choose simple dishes: Grilled proteins with rice or potatoes are your safest bet.
- Sauce on the side: Always request sauces and dressings separately.
- Carry a dining card: Print a card explaining your dietary restrictions for the kitchen.
